Room Assignment

Winter and Summer Session

September 2013

Rooms in residence are for students newly admitted for September to undergraduate studies.  Most candidates admitted in the spring will be guaranteed residence.

Important Dates

          • Guaranteed housing deadline: June 3
If you have guaranteed housing, it will show on InfoWeb. Go to your admission file and look for the ''Housing'' tab. To book a place, read the guaranteed housing documents, print, sign and send them back, along with the $700 deposit (no personal cheque). Make sure it reaches our office by June 3. A few days afterwards, you can check on InfoWeb for a confirmation that your money has arrived.

          • Room assignment notification: from April 30 to July 15
We assign rooms based on availability and preference. You may be assigned alternate housing options than those you have requested. Notifications are sent by e-mail, followed by a package send to you by mail. It contains the residence agreement that needs to be signed and returned to Housing by the date specified therein.
            • Traditional residences - We will notify you of your room assignment, based on the date we received your application (documents and deposit). You will know by:
              • April 30 or sooner if we received your application by March 31
              • May 31 or sooner if we received your application in April
              • July 15 if we receive your application in May, or by the June 3rd deadline.
Please do not call or e-mail before this date to check the status of your application.

            • Brooks and Hyman Soloway apartment style residences: May 1 - July 15
Room assignment notifications will be sent starting May 1.
          • Arrival date notification: starting June 15

You will be notified by e-mail of your arrival date and time, once you have signed your residence agreement.  The information will also appear on InfoWeb, under the Housing tab. You will also receive a color card by mail. When you move in, you will be asked to show that card upon entering the campus area.

How to apply without guaranteed housing

After June 3, the University no longer offers housing guarantee. From then on, requesters are placed on a waiting list, in case of room cancellations. Look up available rooms on the Student Housing Billboard. If you find one, please use this form to request it. However, we strongly advise that you start looking as soon as possible for off-campus accommodation.

Apartment Style Residences

Apartment style residences are occupied year-round. Many rooms become available in May. Two options:

  1. Taking over a resident's contract. You need to be a full time student at uO to do so. The advantage? You can apply and keep the room for September.

  2. Subletting from a resident who leaves for the summer months. The sublet agreement is not renewable.
