Apartment Style Residences

Apartment style residences are occupied year-round. Many rooms become available in May. Two options :

  1. Taking over a resident's contract. You need to be a full time student at uO to do so. The advantage? You can apply and keep the room for September.

  2. Subletting from a resident who leaves for the summer months. The sublet agreement is not renewable.

September 2012

Residence Guaranteed

Rooms in residence are for students newly admitted for September to undergraduate studies.  Most candidates admitted in the Spring will be guaranteed residence. Housing Guarantees are valid until June 1, 2012.

The process:

  • The housing guarantee, where applicable, can be found within your admission file (Housing tab), via InfoWeb.
  • Read the guaranteed housing documents, print, sign and send back your residence application. Make sure it reaches our office by June 1st. A few days afterwards, you can check on InfoWeb for a confirmation that your money has arrived.
  • We assign rooms based on availability and preference. You may be assigned alternate housing options than those you have requested.
    • Students living in the Brooks or Hyman Soloway residences (apartment style) can have their 12-month contract renewed. This is done in the Spring and therefore we can only start issuing room offers for those residences in May, once we know the availability.
    • We will notify you by email of your room assignment. We will send you an information package including your residence agreement soon after. You must sign the contract and return it by the deadline.
  • Move-in date: Once we have your signed residence agreement on file, we will notify you of your exact arrival date. Arrivals are spread out over three days on the first weekend of September.

Priority Waiting List and other requests

After June 1, the University no longer offers guarantees. From then on, requesters are placed on a waiting list, in case of room cancellations. Look up available rooms on the Student Housing Billboard. If you find one, please use this form to request it. However, we strongly advise that you start looking as well for off-campus accommodation.  Start soon.

What is your arrival date?

  • We will notify you by e-mail of your arrival date when we get your signed copy of the residence agreement. Be aware that we use your @uOttawa.ca address for all official communications.
  • We will send you, by mail, a color-coded card indicating your arrival date and instructions concerning the move-in. You will have to show your move-in card upon your arrival on campus.
  • You can also find your arrival date on your admission file (housing tab), via InfoWeb.
